As of 2006, a better choice for a single-disc Doors compilation remained Rhino's The Very Best of the Doors. In 1991, Oliver Stone made a biopic about the Doors, aptly titled The Doors, that chronicled their groundbreaking musical career through the life of lead singer Jim Morrison.Although only a handful of them actually appear on the film’s official soundtrack album, there are more than 20 Doors songs in Stone’s movie. This time, the extended version of "The Ghost Song," which had surfaced on the reissue of An American Prayer (the original version is a couple minutes shorter), was the poor choice - it too is not the kind of thing a casual fan needs on an overview.

When Elektra reissued the title on CD in the mid-'90s, the label removed "Not to Touch the Earth" and added a couple additional tracks to the program. Jim Morrison made the band famous with his controversial lyrics and outrageous stage performances and antics. On the 1996 CD release, the songs The Ghost Song, The End and Love Her Madly were added to the track listing, whereas Not to Touch the Earth was omitted. The group never added a bass player, and their sound was dominated by Manzarek's electric organ work. The album was re-released in 1996 as an enhanced CD with a different tracklisting and cover art. The Doors, one of the most influential and controversial rock bands of the 1960s, were formed in Los Angeles in 1965 by UCLA film students Ray Manzarek, keyboards, and Jim Morrison, vocals with drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger.

The only poor choice was "Not to Touch the Earth," which could have been replaced with any number of more significant songs in the band's catalog. The Doors were an American band and were formed in Venice Beach in 1965 and consisted of Jim Morrison (Vocals), Robby Krieger (Guitarist), Ray Manzarek (Keyboards) and John Densmore (Drums). Greatest Hits is a compilation album by The Doors, released in 1980. Originally released in 1980 to coincide with the Jim Morrison biography No One Here Gets Out Alive, the life of Greatest Hits began as a ten-track release on vinyl that acted as a very succinct introduction to the Doors, with several of the band's most enduring songs - "Light My Fire," "Break on Through," "Touch Me," "Hello, I Love You," "Riders on the Storm" - included.
